Post Pandemic No Man’s Land
In this video, I'm going to share my thoughts on what organisations can do to get over what I cheekily call the post pandemic, no man's land.
What I mean by that post pandemic, we are in an unprecedented time, in terms of the employee employer relationship. So firstly, we're all trying to rebuild after the pandemic and figure out what working patterns and practices people need. But we're doing this in a new world and a new context. Never before have employees had so much power about what they want to do.
We are seeing the great resignation, people are leaving jobs if they feel they're not supported or being looked after. We're also grappling with hybrid and flexible working models. What does this look like to Sam, it's a fantastic thing where actually people with disabilities or mental disabilities or mental health issues or people with caring responsibilities or families will be offered unprecedented access to the workplace in a way that we weren't before. In others, it throws up many challenges.
How do we manage hybrid teams? How do we ensure equality? How do we support people with mental health conditions? And how do we look for them if if we have hybrid models?
What I suggest is that the organisations that in a year's time that will have done this, the best are the ones who aren't at this point, rushing to create models or processes or hybrid working policies, but actually sit tight, hold tight, and wait and see how employees behave over the next few months.
In London, where I live, a lot of people rushed back into the workplace in September, but are now working from home again, when virus rates came up and public transport started to fill out. I think some people are grappling with different working weeks and what to do.
And I think the most progressive organisations but also the hardest thing to do will be the ones that sit back offer office space, or for home working and watch what patterns suit employees. And whilst doing this, ask what is working, what isn't working.
I'm seeing a lot of organisations rushed to get their policies out right and their processes. And I'm seeing organ people leave if they don't like them.
So my advice to get through this next six months of a hump of the post pandemic, no man's land that we face. It no one knows what's going to happen in 234 months time in terms of anything is to sit tight, be flexible and watch, see what patterns you've fallen into. And then create your policies and processes around what works for your employees best. They'll thank you for it in the end.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments on this below. So you give me a shout as always, bye
